Although the NFL Playoffs are several weeks away, I was lead to give some background on exactly what are the NFL Playoffs especially for those who are not familiar with it, have heard their husbands, significant others, friends etc. talk about it with excitement (because yes, it is an exciting time during the season) but just never figured out the jist of it. Well, here goes…
Out of the 32 teams in the NFL, only 12 can qualify for the playoffs. The NFL is made up of two conferences which are the National Football Conference (NFC) and the American Football Conference (AFC). Each conference is comprised of 16 teams each. Now for each conference, there are 4 separate divisions which include 4 teams in each division. For example, the AFC has the AFC North, AFC South, AFC East and the AFC West divisions (each having 4 teams). And the same applies to the NFC.
Okay, so here’s the REAL deal to answering your question “what are the NFL Playoffs?!?”
Now, only 6 teams from each conference can qualify for the playoffs. You qualify for the playoffs by winning your division which means having the best record in your respected division.
The NFL playoffs start a week after the regular season which is a 17 week schedule, with each team receiving a week off which is called a bye week. Both conferences are broken up into 6 teams per, with the number 1 and 2 seeds from each conference getting a bye week for the playoffs. The number 1 seed gets homefield advantage throughout the playoffs depending on if they don’t lose to th สมัครufabetเว็บแม่ e lower seeds.
The first 4 seeds in each conference are division winners (remember, 4 divisions make up a conference so there will be a winning team from each division) and the last 2 seeds get in on a wildcard birth, or called the wildcard round of the playoffs. The number 3 seed plays the number 6 seed on the higher seed homefield and the number 4 seed plays the number 5 seed on the higher seeds homefield for each conference. The winner of those first four games, the lowest seed remaining plays the number 1 seed, and the highest seed remaining plays the number 2 seed. This round is called the divisional playoffs.
